Games that require more than 1GB VRAM

#1ymmac1707Posted 9/11/2013 2:31:07 PM
Just curious I upgraded to a 7950 3GB VRAM ( not yet shipped), however my 7850 1GB plays everything well, even Battlefield 3 Simple question, Is 3MB GDDR5 VRAM really necessary at 1080p single monitor. of course you guys know why I upgraded, Battlefield 4 wants 3GB VRAM. Give example of games at 1080p that currently requires more than 1GB VRAM

Skyrim with a lot of mods.

That's an obvious answer right?

Haha.

3GB is borderline outrageous so you should be fine.

More VRAM is needed if you want the highest of textures in a game. It may actually be useful now since we are moving into the next generation of consoles. I'm not saying the Xbox One and PS4 are necessarily equal or greater than a well made PC, but the line's moved up, so they're going to work in higher quality textures with this game.

At 1920 x 1080, no you won't ever reach that amount, but still the HD7950 is still a better card then an 7850 for the sake of performance.

Outside of playing games with ultra hi-res texture pack overhauls (much like in Skyrim) having 3GB of dedicated VRAM won't get you taxed at that resolution.

My MSI Twin Frozr HD7950 handles a triple monitor Eye-Finity setup at 5760x1080 with ease.

A fanatic attacks the opposing game showing insecurity in the game they like.

BF4 will be the first test of things to come. You'll usually get by for a long time as long as you're prepared to lower the settings, but sooner or later the VRAM won't cut it

Also, some multiplatform games will still run at 30 FPS and sub-1080p resolutions on consoles.
