Aiming for a build <$600. Not interested in overclocking or anything, and don't think I can make it fit in the budget anyway. Don't need optical drive, monitor, KB/M, or OS.

Biggest thing I'm not too sure about is probably the mobo. Is the warning about possibly needing a BIOS update really a problem? And I couldn't remember if ASRock is a good brand or not.

yeah the warning could be a problem since you have a ivy bridge cpu selected. you could get a H77 motherboard which will support ivy bridge cpus right out of the box or get a previous gen sandy bridge cpu. as for asrock it's a pretty good budget brand i own a z68 extreme3 gen3 and it's been great no problems at all.
