does GPU performance usually degrade over time?

I'm sure I'm only getting like 60% of the framerate I used to

Yes, newer games tax the GPU more and more till it eventually can't perform well enough.

No. Newer software is more demanding, and will net lower performance, but the same software will continue to run exactly the same as it always did, and always will.

this. if you had good performance before and now you don't in the same games, it may be something else that changed (drivers) or the card is going bad. otherwise, it should perform the same.

Same drivers, same games I used to play, same hardware.

Maybe it's the CPU? I dunno. I'm on a laptop, if that changes any answers.

Maybe the fan is losing efficiency?

Check your power settings and the clock rate of your CPU and GPU while gaming. Your laptop might be underclocking to save power while you're gaming. This can easily cause you to lose a ton of performancew

I blow some compressed air into the thing occaisonally, and unscrew the back and q-tip some off

It may be temps, but would it make sense for temps to be higher for the laptop when its 2 years older, even though it's doing the exact same thing?
