They're the same price.

I was wondering if anyone had some advice between the two (or knows of a good similarly powered/priced alterntaive). I know a lot of people like ASUS, but what about MSI? Is the slightly better graphics in the MSI worth what is probably slightly worse build quality?

Also, if I buy the laptop on amazon with extended warranty and need to get it repaired, how good are they with that? Better than newegg? I have prime.

(I'm a frequent traveler, I can't do a desktop instead)

The ASUS cpu performs slightly better, but the MSI's gpu performs slightly better.
It's so slight, that I'd go with the ASUS if it were me. You also grab an extra four gb for RAM. Not that you really need that much, but it can't hurt.

My Asus G74 is a piece of junk....

Not sure if I'd trust Asus build quality again.

Posting from my ASUS G75V, had it for 6 or so months and love it. My only complaint is a sort of squeaky space bar.

Amazon doesn't handle anything past 30 days, and I don't believe Newegg does either. That falls on the manufacturer.

Bad, truthful things can be said about both MSI and Asus, though. For me, it wouldn't matter who made it, I would choose the MSI laptop.

Was about 6 months before I blew my first motherboard.

What's wrong with a 17" laptop? It's a bit heavier than others, but as long as you aren't a weakling 2 - 3lbs heavier isn't going to matter. I prefer my 17" laptop over my previous 15.6" laptop.

As for which laptop to choose the msi has a better GPU so I would probably choose that since they are both the same price. I had an asus laptop for over 2 years and had no problems out of it. I'm currently using a gt70 and it works good except I had issues with my keyboard but after a bit of use the issue cleared itself out so I have no problems now.
