What to look for in PS3 HDD's

#1101Philip01(Topic Creator)Posted 9/13/2013 7:47:53 PM
Quote:I bought the HDD in my PS3 from Newegg and it works extremely well. Either Newegg or Amazon will suffice. There is no issue with shipping because they generally use UPS.

In fact the computer I'm using right now all of the components were purchased from Newegg. I recommend them.

@OmegaDL50

Damn, really depends how fast I can get another hard drive to do the back up too. Don't mind having a slower hard drive it means getting to play it early.

Quote:...how do you think they get to stores?
@TimePharaoh

Not by post! Assumed they hauled in a nice pallet box. :D

Be careful. There are 2.5" drives of different thicknesses.

The PS3 can only accommodate 9.5mm thick drives.

@Nicodimus

Yeah the newegg is 9.5mm, still not sure if I should go for it... 7$ shipping.

It doesn't.

But seriously, TC, don't waste your money on a 250 GB hard drive that's not even 7,200 RPM. This one'll get you better performance and more space, and it's not even $15 more:

One other issue to take into account is backing up.

If you plan to use the backup utility, be careful as it doesn't include ANY verification checks while backing up as I discovered to my annoyance as it turned out my HDD-USB adapter was faulty and was corrupting the data which I only found out when I attempted to restore.

Fortunately I still had the HDD I was swapping it with so I was able to recover my data that way, just had to run an update on it as if it was a new HDD but all my data was there.

Sweet, thanks bro! I believe that's the exact same one from newegg but cheaper since no shipping!

Yeah it's like 18-20 gbs but the ps3 needs more free space for some reason, the game's description says so, just never realized it till now.

I deleted alot of game utility's so that I can download and play the game and eventually when I can get another harddrive to backup too do the move.
Does the backup utility move the game as well?
