How would the above handle non gaming tasks? Would it be suitable for music, movies, study, and general internet time wasting?

And should the gaming bug bite me I imagine it would handle old things fine enough right?

Never. Go. Acer.

Or at least the cheap models.

I have a Acer 5733, Intel intergrated, I3-370M, 4GBDDR3. It's not very well made, the keyboard is crap, and it overheats (Then shuts off) when using youtube for average periods of time.

Oh yeah, and the HDD crashed after a year of use.

I agree with this. I have an Acer model laptop and it does not perform well. It gets very hot quickly, is louder than the mammoth Dell laptop I have, and is rather unstable. The hard drive died right when the warranty expired; of course that sort of thing is unpredictable.

The appeal of it to me is it's small size. My current, and well outdated, laptop is too heavy and too big for purely academic (and minor entertainment) uses.

If there are better machines in the same size and price range I would of course be interested.
