Need help for $500 build

#1zachhargisPosted 9/14/2013 12:01:57 PM
I am trying to put together a budget PC for a buddy. Wanting to get as much power out of $500 as possible. We won't need a monitor, OS, keyboard or mouse. This is what I have come up with so far ( http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1DHbs )but I'm about $100 over budget and seeing if you all might have some better suggestions. It's been 10 years since I built a PC so I'm a little out of the loop. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you're not going to overclock immediately stock cooling will be fine. Also, I'd take out that integrated wireless card and grab a wifi USB dongle.

Ok i revised it a little bit. i got it around $533, and upgraded the card to a 7870 instead of 7850. See what you think about this one: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1DHMW

$499. Had to downsize the HDD slightly, and the video card a bit. You can always hold off on overclocking until you can get the 3rd party cooling, so I removed that as well. Still, I think it's solid for the price.

If you don't mind the extra $30, that's better.
What Nicodimus suggested takes a hit to the HDD and GPU that, imo, is worth spending the extra $30 for.

There's another one for $499 with a little different config.

I know these aren't beasts, but I stick strictly to the budget I'm given and never go over.
