at what CPU frequency would there be little to no advantage

Your laptop is a pretty poor overclocker, don't worry your pretty little head about it.

the cpu was locked, the gpu was overclocable, but i never did overclock it. btw, i sold it. I'm gonna build a desktop soon.

there is always a benefit.whether you will notice it will be a different story

It's called the Power Wall. Too high of a clock will actually cause signal leakage. You'll never get your CPU that high though.

I read something about an 8350 getting up to 8.79 GHz earlier this year.

And yet it would probably still be outperformed in most games by a 3.0ghz C2D.

That's going a bit far.

Would take at least 3.2ghz.

if you could clock a cpu at 10ghz or more it's would be incredibly fast , even if it was a single core it's would still kick ass ... but I assume the heat produced by this would be way too much.

Lol it would be possible to clock a Cpu that high, wouldn't it explode like Krypton
I was thinking more something like catching on fire or melting away then exploding.

Nah dude, we're up at CERN now, you wouldn't believe the overclocks you can get by cooling your PC to around 15 Kelvin.
