Audio help for getting sound to my HDTV

#1warner1Posted 9/15/2013 10:34:48 AM(edited)
So my mom wanted to hook her computer up to her HDTV, so she could watch netflix. On her computer she only had a VGA and DVI so i bought her a DVI to HDMI. The problem is that I didn't know DVI didn't carry sound. Now I feel like an ass and I'm trying to figure out how to get audio to the tv. I don't know what i would need to do it though, so any help would be great.

The TV will most likely allow you to use an analog audio connection with the DVI connection. It will be either RCA (red and white plugs) or 3.5 mm plugs. The computer's sound card will more than likely have 3.5 mm plugs. You will need something like either this:

or this:

Just make sure it is long enough.

Honestly I would get some speakers instead for better sound quality, and to enhance the movie experience.
