In addition to snaking, you have the other jump stunts in SASTR that dramatically increase your boost the instant you land. Timing as many stunts as you can to get maximum boost, without overdoing it and killing your momentum, also takes skill, and is something MK doesn't have.

Then there's the fact that so many items in MK feel a bit overpowered, and it's largely luck-based whether you get them or not. Blue shell in particular, but also the bullet bill, invincibility star, etc... MK has a ton of powerups that are effectively unavoidable, random, and occur way too frequently. Sonic, on the other hand, has very few unavoidable powerups, almost any homing weapon can be dodged if you're good, and the all-star powerups don't occur nearly as often as people get those other unstoppable powerups in MK.

MK is fine, but I'd have to say Sonic is the game requiring greater skill.

the flips in sonic are a tedious gimmick . having to push up as many times as possible whenever you get air is not skill, it's annoying but necessary to win. mario karts items take more skill to avoid or plan for. if you're in first you have to play much more defensively rather than sonic where you can just coast to victory once you get ahead. in mario kart you're never safe and someone can always catch up if you're not on your toes. items are one of the things that make mario kart fun and sonic is lacking in this department.

You mean MK is more about luck and Sonic is more about skill. in MK you can get a bullet blue shell and wreck the guy who earned his first place through skill. In Sonic if you gotten a huge lead and are able to keep it, it's not luck it's skill. Also flips arent about just pressing up. If you're just pressing up you're doing it wrong. You're supposed to press as many directions as possible. Example: up + down gives you more boost than Up+ up. If you manage to get all four directions you get a crazy super boost.

actually no. you can over do it too fast and burn the stunt out and it will either fail in mid air or when you land you'll get no boost. this has happened to me on several occasions. Not sure if it's a bug or it's supposed to be that way. I never do over 4 because of this

It was a good buy even at $30, considering the console version cost twice that at launch, and has less content.

uh no.
game was $40 at launch for consoles.
unless if you're bad at math, $30 x 2 =/= $40

There were places selling it for 60, especially local stores that often don't pay attention to prices and think any game on disk is going to cost $60. Even so, two things:

1. 4 packs on GMG with a discount still worked out to under 20 bucks per person, even before the game came out.

2. It's only $20 now, so regardless, it's half the price of a new copy on consoles.

Words of someone who has not actually explored the stunt boost to its full extent. Other people have already pointed out why your comment is incorrect. There are a lot of ways to mess it up, and penalties for messing it up are harsh. There are also different levels of stunt boost, with equivalent rewards. It's not just "hammer up as many times as you can."
