So tomorrow is my last day at my job before I start my new one, and I have a company laptop and cell phone that I will end up returning. My phone has no personal information, I kept my own private cell so I never used my work one for personal stuff, so a factory reset is all I plan to do.
However, my laptop on the other hand has been used for personal things, mostly my wife. So I want to scrub it down so that nothing is recoverable. Not looking for anything super fancy that has the goal of being "undetectable" or "forensics proof", just looking to make sure no personal data is left on the hard drive.
So what do people recomend? I was thinking of just booting up an ubuntu live CD and doing a " dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hdaX " but I was hoping for maybe a live boot CD that will do a good job for me. --- Xbox Live account Kocrashon PSN Kocrashon Owner of every game produced by Squaresoft (working on Square Enix now)

DBAN would work best, just run a simple zero pass over it. --- I think I'm the only person on gamefaqs with a daughterboard - ToastyOne New with a moderation history more plentiful than karma. - Fossil (Moderator)
