La Mulana is a really fun game, but... expect to need to check a walkthrough more than oncej.

Or pay attention to what all the tablets say. Take notes if necessary. The information is all there, people just tend to lose track of it because of the sheer amount of it.

And that one tablet that tells you not to read it again... really, don't read it again.

-To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women.

Give Rogue Legacy a look, it's a metroidvania Roguelike.

Although it's not a roguelike.

It's also not a Metroidvania/Metroidlike.

There's only one Castlevania game on Steam

And it plays like Devil May Cry.

Actually more like God of War, but yeah, it's far removed from metroidvania.

Kind of like almost every single game people call "metroidvania" that is literally nothing like Castlevania.

Yes, yes it is, don't even try to debate it.

The developers have stated what it is. They call it a "rogue-'LITE'".
Makes sense. You die and lose progress, but you have something to build off of when you die.

It doesn't have the basic gameplay that rogue-likes generally have.

The level randomization isn't very meaningful and can even be turned off for a decrease in gold gained.

While technically whatever character you're playing as dies permanently, you don't lose anything except for some gold, which can be spent on permanent upgrades when you have enough of it. So the permadeath aspect isn't really there enough to justify calling it a rogue-like either.

So no, it's not a rogue-like. If you really think it is, then please try to debate it rather than just insisting that it's part of the genre for no reason.

They're like the Castlevania games that expanded on the type of game Metroid is, not a hard concept, you are one of the only people who complains about it. It is annoying, no one cares. It's what the genre is called, get over it.

PS, if you can honestly a Metroidvania game isn't similar to any of the Castlevania games the genre is named after you are either a fool or deliberately ignoring them.

Platforming rogue-like like? It's similar to a rogue like, but less then a rogue like is similar to Rogue. You know, like how Binding of Isaac is sort of like one but not.
