Need a laptop for school

#1Saga3Posted 9/21/2013 7:55:02 AM
Hello, I'm looking for a laptop for school in which I'll be mostly writing code, using Word, Access and Excel, among other things. But the problem is that I really don't know what I should get as I don't know much about laptops (Desktops are another story).

I really have only one condition: it must have a long battery life and NO windows 8. ><

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Even if you gave a brand I could go from there.
Thanks.

Would be ideal, but it's too expensive.

If you want better battery life, you'll want a Haswell laptop. Any of them will have Windows 8, it's inevitable, but nothing's stopping you from installing Windows 7 instead. Windows 8 is better for your battery life, however.

What's your budget, then? $1000-1200 is the baseline for a lot of the best ultrabooks.

Yeah I've been thinking about it. $1000 sounds about right (But it really needs to last a long time 5 years +). The problem with the Air is that the basic model is 1300 let alone the advanced one.

Spending that much on a laptop just for Office and writing code seems a little silly.

The weight and battery life of an ultrabook justifies the expense for a student. You don't really know how nice it is until you try it.
