Why does my fan get louder than usual when playing Bioshock Infinite?

For some reason it starts to get loud when I play Bioshock Infinite like 20 minutes into the game

It's like a fire alarm except it's warning you to get out of the boring game

Would turning down settings help?

Probably so long as you have vsync on. That should be the first step. If your machine can't keep up a solid 30/60 fps at low settings than it wouldn't make much of a difference at all though.
