I built this PC two years ago. Now the only component from the build that is still on sale on the site I bought it from is the RAM, which has gone up from the 29.41 I paid for it, to 63.36.

It's not that computers are more expensive now but the price of RAM in general did increase. There was a recent factory chemical explosion (I forgot where) that destroyed about 2/3 of the manufacturing capability for memory units. Supply dropped dramatically while demand did not... prices naturally increased.
Genius has its limitations. Ignorance has none.

Yeah, I heard about the accident. Given the high prices and the state of my finances, it looks as if this PC be stuck with 8GB for good.

I dont even know what you're talkin about but 2011 was cheap ass computers. I built a dope ass pc for $800, 2500k, amd 6950. 2011 wasn't s*** compared to 94 or 95 when we spent $2000 for a doodoo pentium 1 120mhz. I think it had 4gb hard drive? Gateway 2000 btw.

Just be happy you did not need to buy RAM in the 90's

Good thing I got my 8GB Gskill 1600 for free with my Gigabyte Z77 board which was also only at $115. Great board, great ram, great price. I don't usually get so lucky, but I haven't seen a deal like that since!
