So Valve is trying to redefine PC gaming as... console gaming?

As if bona fide PC games aren't rare enough, Valve wants devs to start associating PC gaming with couches and controllers? Why are people excited about this?

How is that different than sitting at your desk currently? Still will be PC core.

Who's excited?

No, they're just trying to appeal to the console market so that people who don't know any better will buy their pre-built(s) that they release later. The "Steam Box". For PC gamers that just means more options for how to play, which I think is a good thing. And more people buying PC games means more incentive for developers to focus on PC instead of consoles.

More incentive for developers to design PC games for controller use, you mean.

Oh gosh, I hadn't even thought of that. I mean, the option is nice when appropriate, but the idea of PC games being designed around that when they shouldn't be is horrible.

On a happier note, it's going to be hilarious when there are a bunch of people playing FPS games with controllers against people using kb/m.

More options the better. I'm perfectly fine using a controller for games designed for it. You are making it sound like keyboard and mouse will disappear... It won't.

So that's what the Console/PC war comes down to after all this time? Controller vs. KB/mouse...and KB/mouse loses?

I choose the PC version over the console version for one major reason, mouse control. If games start focusing primarily on gamepad use, the mouse will go the way of the dinosaur and then I'm stuck trying to aim my damn gun with a freaking analog stick. I pray this doesn't happen.

I think they need to go to the motion control and try to expand on it. That could be the best of both worlds if they'd develop the technology and get intuitive with it.

It's not like Valve's games take advantage of PC in any way that isn't mods. They're all pretty slow paced cinematic affairs.
