Wtf, Dawnguard for free?

#1TheC0ndemnedOnePosted 9/23/2013 5:19:52 PM
I just noticed that my Steam client started downloading something. So I went and checked it.

It was a 600-something MB patch for Skyrim. Out of curiosity, I checked the game's details page to see if there was update info. There wasn't. So I checked the DLC info and noticed that it said I have Dawnguard. Is that what Steam is trying to download?

I've never bought any Skyrim DLC. I've only downloaded the free High resolution pack.

I wonder if this is being charged on my account somehow. I checked my email and it doesn't say I've purchased anything.

Yeah...I'm in the WTF just happened state. Not sure if accident, random gift for an "Oldish" game they've been milking...or what. Someone losing a job? Rolling back an update in 2 hours? I have no clue...But free DLC that is currently listed as $20 in the Steam store is extremely mind boggling.

Especially since I only just got the game a short while ago in that $14-ish sale on...Gamefly? I think.

Was just REALLY odd to see a ~700MB update for a relatively old game roll out at 7pm (for me, 5PM Valve time)...

same here, I checked my account purchases and last thing I got was my Metro stuff from the amazon sale but if I go to store page for Dawnguard, it says I already own it so...thanks Bethesda!

Maybe it's one of those things you get for BUYING the game firsthand? Like those mp passes. I know it's weird for a PC game on steam and I got my skyrim off of the 29 dollar bethesda debacle but I got it too for some reason.

Yeah, when I saw the forum post first thing I did was double-check to see if it listed Dawngaurd as "Complimentary" or something on my purchase history.

Given there's no news of this just yet, I'm remaining skeptical of it being allowed to stay.

Yeah...Even that doesn't make sense. I bought the game from a 3rd-party site and registered the key through Steam, just a couple months ago. Didn't pay full price on release, no pre-order, not even bought from Steam.

AND, the other thing is that *Every* single person on my Steam Friends list "Owns" the DLC---even the ones that DON'T own Skyrim at all. So another reason for skepticism.

Here's hoping it remains. I'm slightly interested in the DLC.

I can be interested in anything if it's given to me for free. :P

And someone in that Steam forum link I posted made an interesting point on CoD:BO2 having gotten a DLC released for free that was never added to purchase history/account licenses, but just being considered to have been included in the base game license. So it MAY be legit.

I don't even have Skyrim installed and I know I never bought Dawnguard, and sure enough, there it is in the list of Skyrim DLC I own.

Yeah, the Steam page for Dawnguard tells me that I own it, but I don't even own Skyrim. Strange.
