What I don't get about the SteamOS?

#1TransdudePosted 9/23/2013 4:24:36 PM
Okay, we know that Valve has yet to announce the Steam Box, but this is the one thing I'm questioning about the SteamOS page.

It will be available soon as a free stand-alone operating system for living room machines.

That is the one thing I'm confused about. Do they mean that the SteamOS will also be available for consoles?

Can I build my own PC and use SteamOS to play games? Or do I have to have Windows too?

SteamOS only plays Linux-compatible games.

Of course you can, why couldn't you? It's Linux. You can install Linux on any computer.

Is finding compatible games with Linux an issue?

Go to the Steam website and click on Linux. But just to save you time, I'll just tell you that the library of games available for Linux is a small fraction of the list of games available for Windows. I think Valve hopes that SteamOS will change that but it remains to be seen.
