Enthusiast suggests every 2 generations, so next month is just about the right time. The new AMD GPU is coming mid October and that is exactly 2 generations up.

Wait so being a complete computer noob, would I be able to put the new GPU with my current power supply? (How do I check this?)

Uh...you might have to open the PC. It isn't hard if you have a screwdriver.

When your card starts sucking weewee. I usually go every 2 gens. So 2xx, 4xx, 6xx Nvidia.

You can buy a $500 console and a $500 computer and have two crap machines, or you can spend $1000 building your own computer and have the best of both worlds.

If you're afraid to open up your computer, you should turn back now.

The new R200 series should have similar connector. My 6970 has a 4pin and a 3pin plugs. I thought yours would be similar. The PSU model number should be printed on the side, so other than the case side panel, you don't have to unplug anything just to see it.
