I see people constantly bash I7...

The problem is when someone's proposed build has an i7 and a "mid-tier" GPU.
If gaming is the priority, one's budget is much better used with just an i5, but a better GPU.

Wait... what?

$100 extra on a GPU will lead to a significant boost in performance.
$100 extra for an i7 over an i7 will have a negligible in the majority of games.

TC, have you tried overclocking your i5?

Which I7 would be a better performer i7 4820k, i7 3770k, or i7 4770?

^ Source from there.

I haven't overclocked and I really dislike the idea of it due to my cooling etc.

If you're going to spend that much on an entirely new CPU, why not spend a fraction of that on better cooling so you can OC? It's not even hard to do anymore. I cranked mine up initially without even having to screw with voltages, or anything else, and it was stable. I eventually fine tuned it to keep it a little cooler/use less power, but that wasn't even necessary.

Alright so I am running Prime with a I5 3570K @ 3.9GHZ and within 10 minutes my maxes are at 73 78 77 74, on test 9. Is that safe?

I am running an Ivy Bridge. I hear 105 is technically when I need to cut this off, but right now temps are around 69-71 and maxes of 80 82 80 79. I assume that's still safe right?

the i7 is a better processor, however it is not $70 better than an i5.

I can imagine seeing more hyper threaded games in the near future.

My core 2 duo laptop shuts itself down when CPU temps reach 90 - and they do all the time because I'm too lazy to clean its guts which are so full of dust the fan has trouble starting and staying at speed.

No, this doesn't have anything to do with the topic.
