Business interests want to control the internet, the government wants to curve criminal use of it.

Big business and government go hand in hand, and the government decides whats criminal and what isn't...

So it's a loose loose for the people.

Piarcy again? If companies don't want their stuff pirated, Do a valve, have a better service than the pirates and put it on Netflix, and make some money off it.

Got a series from the early 2000s that maybe some people want to buy? But can't because the DVD isn't available?

Put it on netflix, (UK and US please :3), make SOME money off it.

If it's not
On DVD/Blu-ray/ for a reasonable price
On my regional itunes for a good price
On my regional Netflix
Releasing again anytime soon. (Gurenn lagann is getting a UK re-release)
then it's MORALLY ok to pirate it.

Watch out for the loose loose. I hear it's important in this argument.

We should regulate the internet. We don't want people starting arab springs and freely expressing their ideas. For example if the government does something illegal and wrong, i shouldn't be able to safely inform other people. Let's go back to the good old days before the internet where a nobody like me could be crucified for fighting for what's right and nobody would even know or dare challenge the authorities.

I don't know if you're being serious or sarcastic.

If you're serious, I am very saddened at your view of things.

I don't understand how democratic governments are allowed to make laws that the people don't want.

Because corporations/industry watchgroups are formed by people - people who have a metric ton of cash for lobbying for their cause etc.
