HD7970 vs gtx770?

#1DinglesteedPosted 9/26/2013 11:12:59 AM
Which is the better card to buy now? Or would I be smarter to just wait until the new AMD cards come out and possibly get one of those? I heard they were out mid October, is that right?

Anyways, my pros/cons list is the following:

7970:

pros: Cheaper, comes with 3 free games
cons: Not sure how good amd drivers are, new series coming soon

gtx770:

pros: Known to have good drivers, PhysX
cons: More expensive

Yeah, wait for the new cards.

AMD will have something that beats the 770 at <$400.

Another thing to consider is how much VRAM you need. The 7970 has 3GB, and the 770 has both a 2GB and 4GB version.

I'm just using it to play games and general internet stuff.

Unless you play Skyrim with a LOT of graphics mods, chances are you'll be fine with 2GB.

It really depends what resolution he plays at, and if he uses more than one monitor.

Memory bandwidth is probably going to be a problem before VRAM is, at least for a single card setup.

1080p and 1 monitor. At most I will use two, but mainly one for the foreseeable future.

Knowing that, I reiterate:

I use about 2.5GB of Vram with Skyrim.
