Didn't see the first option, should have said that.

My first reaction was "what the **** is this ****?", quite literally.

If you're thinking, "WTF Is this", just read the content... it seems rediculus at first, but.. I'm starting to like it. I think the trackpads might end up breaking or something, but it doesn't look too bad.

This was my first reaction, but after reading everything and thinking about it, I'm actually very interested and think it may actually work fairly well.

The Steam Controller is built around a new generation of super-precise haptic feedback, employing dual linear resonant actuators. These small, strong, weighted electro-magnets are attached to each of the dual trackpads. They are capable of delivering a wide range of force and vibration, allowing precise control over frequency, amplitude, and direction of movement.

I think dual linear resonant actuators says all you need to know about that.
