^^^The trackpads work great according to this game designer..

I suppose they might work well once you are used the them. The problem is that what I love about the joystick is that you can jerk around when you get excited or surprised and it's easy to get back on point.

With a trackpad it seems like it would be a little less forgiving.

It looks ok. best feature of it is they said it'll work with ALL games, if they can pull that off well it'll be awesome.

You shouldn't jerk your joystick when you're excited or surprised.

This looks odd....

I absolutely hate it and hope Valve goes nearly bankrupt for being so stupid. They've spent so much money and time planning this but WTF is Half Life 3 already. F---- steam and f----- steambox. I don't need another PC.

I think the slightly concave shape of the trackpads might help with getting back on point. You can probably feel the pad invert towards the center as you slide your thumb down it. If they use software to always renturn controls back to the center of the pad once the thumb is taken off it then it would work pretty good.. How well and precise the haptic feedback works on the trackpads will probably make or break this though but that Tweet is a good indication that it works great.

I bet its more intuitive than it looks. The 2 buttons on the bottom are a nice addition. I don't like the way the 'face' buttons are laid out though. Maybe you can have the center touch screen's two right quadrants set up for a more normal layout? I honestly think the haptic feedback and touch 'dials' would work extremely well. The problem with touch devices is that you never know exactly where the neutral position is but, with these, the shape should make it quite easy. I'll give it a shot and if it has easier to toggle legacy support as well as customization on par with something like xpadder, it will be the best controller available.

Sadly it won't ever replace a keyboard for typing though. Last hurdle to overcome somehow. Maybe a slide out text pad as a new revision?

IF I don't get into the beta for the actual steam box, I hope I get the controller at least...

It just looks strange like it's too alien to impress console gamers and PC gamers alike. It's too different from a normal controller nor is it a keyboard and mouse.
