Im confused about the steam box....

It seems that there will be a wide variety of Steam Machines. We could see Roku or Chromecast style versions or the SteamOS could be embedded in a TV to stream games from an existing gaming PC.

Users can build their own Steam Machines and they can spend as much or as little as needed on the hardware. So there could be Steam Machines for as little as $35 all the way to $2000.

That's probably a safe bet. I agree.

Does Skyrim have a linux version? If so, then yes, straight from the steam box... if not? You'll need an actual PC to stream it...

No it only plays PS2 games from CD
