Finally it seems I managed to get rid of some nasty malware I apparently had

Bit Defender's auto update is still disabled
haven't had any problems yet

I'm sorry
I'm not baiting for replies I'm troubleshooting
As you can see my system works perfectly so reinstalling windows would've been a bigger problem than troubleshooting with the occasional lag.

It appears that I just now had a connection problem without having any lag
I was drawing in photoshop and didn't even notice the issue
though an hour ago i did have a very very short lag that lasted a second or two at most, but nothing compared to before.

Now the internet went down, I have NO IDEA wtf is wrong with my ISP they used to be rock solid, and I don't think I was affected at all, no lag no nothing and the computer detected there was no connection fairly quickly compared to before.

Could automatic update for BitDefender and before that AVAST(I dont have that anymore, naturally) really be the problem? Now with it disabled i suffered no lag when the connection messed up

It appears the lag is definitely caused by bigger BitDefender updates.
I was running my system perfectly smoothly until now when I decided to update BitDefender manually by clicking the Update Now button.

The download process took slightly longer, I'm not sure how big the download was, I'd say around 2MB, every day the program has these slightly bigger downloads and there was some lag during the download process, the lag got especially bad immediately after the download ended when I tried to open right click menus on the desktop or in folders which normally always leads to the worst lag.

Now I am 100% certain that this lag is caused by, in this case, BitDefender downloading and installing somewhat bigger updates a couple times a day and checking for updates automatically.

I know for a fact that lag similar to this would occure right before AVAST would report an update before I got BitDefender.

What I don't understand is why such small updates cause so much stress on my system?

Again, the system was working flawlessly until I manually decided to update BitDefender and it detected, downloaded and installed a slightly bigger update.

Now I can confirm with 100% certainty that the update feature on BitDefender causes the lag if it's downloading and installing an update larger than 1MB.

The lag starts during the download process which is strangely slow for such small updates...unless I'm reading the size wrong and it's over 10MB but I doubt that they'd have 10MB updates every day or multiple times a day, either way the lag starts during the download process and intensifies as bitdefender downloads more, by the end of the download the connection practically stops working and there's lag all around and if I try to do stuff in explorer it might make it hang for a bit.

The lag contunues after the download for a bit and then everything goes back to normal.

NOTHING else seems to be causing this except the update feature on BitDefender.

Get rid of bitDefender. You seriously shouldn't need more than malwarebytes and MSE. Also file a report/complaint with bitdefender support and see what comes of it. Bitdefender McAfee and Norton are the worst for resource usage. MSE Avast! and Avira all have similar detection rates with less overhead as well. I gather that your original cocktail didn't catch whatever you said you had originally, but with these new issues, maybe that 'catch' wasn't the main issue and was likely harmless.

I had the same issues with AVAST's auto update.
I switched to bit defender is after reading quite a bit on which is the best paid solution and I must admit I don't even notice the program is running except the update stuff.
I'm very happy with its detection rate because I often have to use infected USB drives on my computer and Bitdefender is pretty quick at picking up these threads.

If the only problem is the update causing lag, I won't mind sticking with bit defender internet security as my main protection tool and the other programs like malware bytes, super anti spyware and hitman pro as my "second opinion" ones.

I'll definitely post about this on the BitDefender forums and see what they have to say about it.

also I wouldn't compare BitDefender to Norton or McAfee, it's miles ahead of them in terms of quality from what I can tell.

Posted on their forums.
I know people here tell me to get rid of BitDefender, but I honestly love the software.

As I said on their forum.
I don't intend to not using BitDefender Internet Security because it's hands down the best main security solution I've used and I have used quite a few across different computers.

It's non intrusive, very stable, detects quite a lot of stuff and whatever little it misses is generally covered by my other tools so it's no big deal.
My only issue is the update causing lag and making my entire windows hang for a few minutes after its done downloading and during the download process, but that seems to have been resolved by disabling auto update and updating only when I don't have work to do.

I'd still like to know what could be possibly causing this and a potential solution though.

Just one more post to confirm that there is officially no more lag whatsoever.
I only update when I don't do anything important and my system works perfectly fine.

See? THIS is why I was against re-formatting
I took some time, was able to pinpoint the source of my problem and managed to fix it.

Reinstalling everything would've been more trouble than worth it.
