Broken laptop motherboard or screen issue?

#1silvergokuZPosted 9/29/2013 4:21:04 PM
I have one of the dodgy HP Pavillion laptops that had a terrible reputation, it was working but going very hot but worked till I wanted to put more ram in, then stopped posting even with original ram in basically it got power but the device did not post and the optical drive did not even eject.

After I took it apart now the disc drive is ejecting but getting no video

I did lose the bios battery but it should at least post should it?

I did see a connection on the motherboard but nothing I could find plugged into it

I was thinking of replacing the board anyway but wanted to try and get it to work anyway since I want to sell it once its working

Other thing it could be is ram slots? Since that was what stopped it working in the first place.

Try connecting an external monitor. Also, some do refuse to boot without a BIOS battery.

that's how -SOME- HP laptops work

I have an HP G70 that still works perfectly after all these years.

Luckily an IT company on Ebay has refurbished motherboards, without the cpu but can use this one and it has the graphics chip on the board cheap(works out about 54 USD or 40 gbp) its just as I want to sell it on its working out if its worth it or should I gut the system, as the problem with that is each part may be worth a bit but only one or two may sell.

If it wasnt for the fact I just got a new laptop so I am short of cash I would of just got new board and given it to parents for christmas

So its just if its worth getting a refurbished board from a good it company and sell it on or just sell parts
