I mainly use gadgets that show the information for my CPU, GPU, etc.

I still use them, I have a few RSS feeds, a few weather reports, and several clocks on my desktop for each time zone I support.

I use Core Temp, a clock gadget, a weather gadget and Pandora.

You do know that's not the only place to get gadgets?


I know - and I also know that the reason they've stopped supporting them is largely *because* of security issues with third-party gadgets - you never really know what you're opening your computer up to with those.

They were not really succesfull and never really got a following in users or developers.

The ones I liked most were from http://addgadgets.com/
Rainmeter can probably do anything gadgets can do, but better and more customizable.

Eh. It seems like a cool idea but in practice I never see the gadgets because I'm never staring at my desktop.

Same, I rarely see my desktop. At startup for maybe 10-12 seconds before my browser launches and after that it's never seen again.
