I bought a XFX 7870 and it was fine. Dude proly sold it because maybe it was going bad/defective. I wouldn't get anything higher than that if it's XFX.

i'm not sure if you can install a aftermarket cooler since xfx has thier own.....you would have to take of there's off and put another on one....

How loud is the fan? Perhaps the bearing is failing?


Follow the advice posted, re-paste and see where the temps go, but in my experience the fan should be fairly quiet until 70-100% speed.

The fan is causing the problem you'll have to buy a replacement heatsink/fan.

That's what you have to do for ANY aftermarket cooler. Remove the shroud, heatsink, and fan, and put on the aftermarket one.
