Vid/aud app that normalizes volume in a playlist?

Say you have 20 vids downloaded from youtube or whatever, and you drag over the lot in your file manager and send to a playlist in Foobar/MPC/VLC or whatever.

Do you use a plug-in or something to normalize volume so that each vid/aud track plays at a set volume?

I tried this in VLC features and it didn't seem to work.

What do you think is the best way to do this? I don't wanna compile a new vid in Sony Vegas just to do this.

iTunes has sound check.
Fear is a leash.

ah, found it

normalization is the wrong concept, what i meant was "automatic gain control"
