I just ordered an AMD A10 laptop. Should I put an SSD inside?

Well, I just dropped $345 on a 500GB Samsung evo and $13 on a USB to SATA converter so I can clone the OS. I hope this was money well spent...

You are better off installing a fresh copy of Windows so it will be optimized for the SSD.

Is this a real thing? I can't imagine what the difference would be.

Won't I have to buy Windows 8 to do a fresh install?

You won't have to buy Windows 8 as long as you have the product key that it came with and installation disk (or ISO version)

The Windows 8 key is kept on the BIOS or some such shenanigans, isn't it? Just reinstall using an official windows ISO and you'll be fine, no need to repurchase it. Also, yes, you'll want to do a fresh install. Always a better idea than cloning.
