Pc Booting issue after graphics card upgrade, please help..

#1Lozh900Posted 10/1/2013 6:30:21 AM
OK, So I upgraded from a gtx 560se to a gtx 760 and now the computer will show the Gigabyte splash screen where you can enter the bios. It beeps as if its going to start but stays stuck on that splash screen (I can also not access the bios etc at first) and then 30 seconds later it beeps as if to boot again, then on the 4th time of these 30 second intervals before beeping the pc boots as normal.

I even put a 750w power supply in thinking it was just not getting enough power from my 600w and the same thing happens. Is there somethign I am missing here?

(p.s posting from the affected computer now)

Did you uninstall the drivers from your previous video card before upgrading?

Are you sure the new power supply works? Did you plug in all the cables (CPU power, 24 pin, etc) correctly?

I had something like that before, turned out a ram stick unplugged midway, probably from seating the graphics card. Try making sure everything is in proper place.

I have everything in correctly. I downloaded my motherboard bios update but can't figure out how to do it.

I have a ga-z77-DS3H gigabyte board.

Both my gtx 560se and mt gtx 260 both work perfectly fine in the motherboard but my 760 will not.

The card is fine though as I put it into my older qq6600 board and that pc boots just fine.

Perhaps it could be a bug with PCI-E 3.0 cards for your motherboard.
The BIOS updates for your motherboard don't mention anything regarding video cards though.

IIf you want to try updating the BIOS, it'seasy to update the BIOS by using Q-Flash. Do that with the other card though, to make sure it's as stable as possible. You don't want a BIOS flash to go wrong.

What CPU do you have? Is there any way in the BIOS to manually set the PCI-E at 2.0 or 3.0?

Dumb question...did you plug in the necessary cables (some combination of 6-pin and/or 8-pin) to the 760? It's easy to get excited once you put the new card in and forget to hook up the power before putting it back together.

I did yes, but, I finally figured out what was going wrong.

5 hours of messing about and I never thought to change from EFI boot mode to Legacy boot mode.

I feel extremely stupid right now :(

Thanks for all the trouble shooting though guys. It was the bread crumbs that lead to the eventual fix :)
