PC noob question: what stats do i need to know?

#1ROBANN_88Posted 10/1/2013 12:01:33 PM
when i'm looking at the Dxdiag file, it's all just gibberish to me. i have no idea what any of this means.
can someone just tell me which parts are important and which aren't?

what does one need to know to figure out if it can handle this or that game?

Why don't you copy the output of dxdiag here and the game you're going to play

Operating System (OS)
Processor (CPU)
Memory (RAM) This is given in MB but we usually refer to RAM in GB so my ~8000 would be 8GB
Display (click the top tab) Name and or chipset

Also generally speaking its probably best to just ask on a site like this for advice on whether or not something will run. Canyourunit and other similar sites are notoriously bad for giving incorrect results.

Edit: So from the information you listed
Operating System (OS) = Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
--Usually referred to as Win7 64bit (as the home premium part is mostly irrelevant)

Processor (CPU) = Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
--We'd just refer to that as an "i5-2450"

Memory (RAM) = 6144MB RAM
--6GB RAM

Display = Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
--This is actually just an integrated GPU (graphics processing unit). Unfortunately these integrated graphics solutions are pretty weak compared to a "dedicated" GPU. Integrated means its part of the CPU (or processor) while dedicated means it has its own dedicated chip.

You won't be running BF4 at all with that setup. All due to your lack of a reasonable GPU.

See edit^

Is that a desktop pc or a laptop? If its a laptop, you are not going to be able to use that for intensive gaming ever. If its a desktop you may be able to upgrade the GPU.

edit: Also if I wasn't being such a dumbdumb I would have noticed the "m" for mobile after the cpu model and not needed to ask if it was a laptop.

You could probably play older games on lower settings pretty easily, that's about it though. I mean that's not terrible news. There are a ton of older games that are absolutely fantastic and these days they're dirt cheap.
