Can someone explain to me this Xi3's Modular Piston Console?

Is it basically a prebuilt gaming PC that can be hooked up to my TV? What OS does it use, I'm confused lol.

Are the specs better than the PS4/X1 or just stick with the consoles & build me a PC or wait for the Steamboxes?

It should use SteamOS, but I can't be sure since I took one look at the specs and the price and haven't looked back. It uses integrated graphics, and you're paying for the form factor more than anything, overpaying at that. It's hard to say whether or not the next gen consoles are more powerful since I'm fairly certain the CPU used in the Xi3 doesn't have much solid info out for it yet. Regardless, build your own PC. For $1000 you could build a bomb PC, like a really good one.

It's not a Steambox, it won't be using SteamOS - at least not out of the gate (I wouldn't think there's any reason you couldn't install it on it after it releases but the same's true of any pc).

It's a small form factor PC. Probably proprietary form factor but going off it's chasis size probably similar to Pico-ITX. Makes use of mSATA, and probably SODIMM, and using the Trinity APU so that it doesn't have to have a discrete GPU and also because AMD's integrated graphics offering are better than Intel's.

I also think it's overpriced as ****. The piston is starting to look alot like their X7A. Think about it 8 GB of SODIMM and an A8-5500 will run you $200, a 128 GB mSATA drive will cost about $200 tops. Thats $400, that means they're charging you at the least $600 for a motherboard, case, and power brick.

You're paying alot for that 4.3" x 3.7" x 3.7" form factor.

Personally I'd just go with a Mini-ITX build.

Take the time to learn and build your own.

Then install whatever OS you need.

It's not a console, It's just a PC. It will run Windows.
