Just wondering when I'll have to toss out a all new build.. or perhaps just a CPU / GPU combo.

You should be just fine for quite some time assuming you're just worried about gaming.
Many Bothans died to bring you this post.

You'll have to upgrade your GPU much sooner than your CPU

You're good. Maybe get a new GPU sometime.

I hate the fact that the I7 won't be complete overkill anymore.

Well that's cool and yea, I realize a GPU upgrade is needed most (sooner or later). I plan to go big once the new consoles roll out or sometime during I guess.

If you wait til next year you can get either an 800 series Nvidia graphics card or on of the new AMD cards for cheap since they'll be ~6 months old at that point.

We don't know yet. A 3570K with Turbo Boost (not to mention manual overclocking) runs at 3.8 GHz. The next-gen consoles have CPUs running around 1.8 GHz, I think. Also, I don't think the games will use all those cores on the next-gen systems.

Watch Dogs may have some pretty high CPU requirements, but that could just be because it's one of the first next-gen games (exaggerated requirements and/or developers not being used to the new specs in the consoles) and because it might be a poor port.

The fact that it's running on PC, next-gen, and last-gen systems already makes me speculate just how much the CPUs it recommends are really needed. I have a feeling that high-end CPUs will certainly help, but current i5 CPUs combined with high-end GPUs will still be adequate, as usual.

And then again, there could be some major reasons (that are currently unknown) as to why the i5 processors will die for next-gen gaming.

We'll just have to wait and see some benchmarks and explanations.

My i7 860 at 3.4GHz has still been kicking ass. You should be fine with an i5 3570k for years to come.
And if you hear as the warm night falls. The silver sound from a time so strange. Sing to me, sing to me.
