the two track pads each have 4 buttons, and the middle touch screen is also a button, making for 16 buttons total. my guess is you use the track pad for touch based movement control, then you use the second track pad to press face buttons like a standard controller. if so--thats awesome i cant wait.

I hope it works out. I see potential in it.

The only thing that worries me is the ABXY buttons. Hopefully they aren't super-awkward to press along with combinations of other buttons in some games. This is mainly an issue for older games because future games will (hopefully) have the Steam Controller in mind.

Hopefully it's easy to rebind the buttons for some games without losing any functionality.

looks horrible IMO, I'm not sure why they tried to change something that's already been pretty much perfected. Controller wise, the 360 controller is by far the best controller out there, with the only flaw being the terrible D-pad. The PS3 and PS2 controllers were pretty decent in their own right, but the 360 controller is just so much more comfortable to hold and use, at least for me and everyone I've talked to about it IRL. Removing analog sticks and buttons for a trackpad that tries to do both is just kind of silly. Who actually likes trackpads to begin with, at best they are awkward and inaccurate to use.

Knowing Valve, I am sure it will be nice, I am curious and can't wait to try one out at the store somewhere before actually purchasing it. It's so cumbersome to play PC games on a couch with mouse and keyboard

i dont like the xbox 360 controllers analogs actually. they feel awkward and floaty, and they are off-center so my character keeps moving on his own.

If its been perfected then why do controller players constantly get destroyed by kb+m players? It sounds like Valve is trying to lessen that gap with their controller, I don't know how effective it will be but anything is better than the dual analog sticks currently being used.

theres a big gap between keyboard and mouse users because they have assisted aim when using a mouse. if you can use the face buttons and track pad similtaneously, then itll be fixed, and that seems to be what theyre doing. i also like the idea of using the track pad as an analog and pressing on it like a dpad for RPGs or menu movement. its better than reaching down to the DPAD.
