Is it just me or does Orgin blow the f*** away Steam in terms of download speed

You guys must have port issues. I get the same speed on both services.

Origin downloads compressed files and then artificially inflates the displayed download speed beyond what it's ACTUALLY downloading at.

Unless you're actually monitoring it with external software. Don't go by what the Origin client shows. Steam and Origin both download at the exact speeds my internet allows. Yet, Steam shows the correct 1.5-1.6MB/s, while Origin inflates it to 1.8-2.2MB/s.

You are wrong.

That proves absolutely nothing.

Let me simplify it for you.

1 Game download files are compressed. 12gb unpacked becomes 8gb for download

Origin downloads those 8gb but shows speeds that would correspond to the 12gb.
--You aren't downloading at the speeds its listing. Check network monitor to verify

Steam downloads those 8gb and shows speeds that would correspond to those 8gb.
--You ARE downloading at those speeds. Check network monitor to verify.

Its simple really and has been verified by several people including myself. Origin was supposedly getting 3.5MB/s on my 2.4MB/s connection and network monitor confirmed I was not gaining magical free speed.

You guys are simply forgetting that Origin downloads are fast because no-one's downloading anything.

The game is 8gb in both steam and Origin, so I don't know what you are trying to prove. Its the same game, same size just different clients.

Don't bother with DerPancake. He's a troll that thinks it's cool to hate on Nintendo and act like Origin is the best DRM ever.

I'm proving that origin lies about its download speeds.

I'm downloading at 2.2mb/s... Origin is telling me I'm dl at 3.4mb/s... lies

Here's Steam actually giving me better legit speeds

Oh I know. I just feel like pointing out indisputable proof that he's objectively wrong in this case. It's fun seeing trolls come back after doing so.

Uh, so does Steam. My internet connection is 50 megabits per second, according multiple runs of SpeedTest, which is 6.25 megabytes per second. For me, Steam always downloads at 8 to 9 megabytes per second.
