http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1KXBF <--- Only messed with for less than an hour, so maybe rough.

CPU: My friend would like hyperthreading, so an i7 would be nice.

GPU: Nvidia/AMD, whatever has nice price for performance. Maybe would be nice if he has more VRAM, but he's been on integrated graphics so it doesn't matter about having a bit more for him.

HDD: He'd rather have a 1TB, 7200 RPM preferrable.

RAM: As long as it's at least 8GB and good price, it's good for him.

Case: Whatever is okay-looking, but cheap and efficient.

OS: Don't include one. We got it covered.

Pretty much if you can try to stay under $800 after rebate, that works.

If you find any good deals, go ahead and mention them.

Best get a card with at least 2 GB of VRAM if he has any hope of playing games in the future.

Everything there is good except the processor and video card. You're way overpaying for an old i7 and you're really skimping on the video card.

Someone may want to confirm if that's a motherboard that's good with overclocking.

And does your friend "think" he wants hyperthreading or does he "know" he wants hyperthreading.

My build was with the assumption that he thinks he wants it but picked out what he really needs.

That looks like a good build. Thanks for the help. Any more modifications are always nice as I like to compare price and worth.

A slightly different setup for $792. You're probably going to want low profile RAM so it doesn't hit your CPU cooler, so I included it in this build.
