This thread is now about what people think of when they hear the term "Steam Machines."

Here's mine:

I think steam machine sounds pretty BA....

It's not a bad name for it, certainly better than Steam Box. But no matter what they call it, at the end of the day it's just another pre-built computer and should be treated as such.

I have a gaming PC, the PC i am on right now.

I'm super excited to build myself a small form PC (with parts i have already) which will run SteamOS instead of the resource hog Windows. And stream games from this PC to my living room. Consoles are horrible, but the one thing they have over PC is gaming on the couch.

If i do all that i can sell my current HTPC so SteamOS will actually make me money. But f*** logic, SteamOS and Steam Machines are a silly idea

Why don't people realize that this is basically just a giant expensive experiment being done by valve. No one including valve knows how this is going to play out. Lets just see where it goes and how it benefits us. If there is no benefit to the pc gaming industry, it will flop, simple as that.

But you can already do this? And you're implying this is something an actual PC gamer wants to do....you're mistaken. That's like claiming a controller is an advantage.

How is that even a benefit? Games look worse, have worse input lag, you can't play any actual PC designed games unless you're using a telescope or sitting right up to it, it's usually awkward to use a keyboard or whatever on a couch so you lose the superior controls....might as well just get a console at the point as you clearly are just playing garbage console games anyway.

I think it's slightly more than an experiment...I mean, I think there's a real desire on their part to get away from Windows as the ONLY gaming OS, which is why they've been working on Mac and Linux... I really do hope they can succeed at least with the SteamOS. I'm sure steamboxes will get the same crowd who would go to Alienware or best buy to look for a PC. I highly doubt it'll catch on with the console crowd.
