So I want to host a video game tournament but I don't really want to use a game everyone uses. I was watching a binding of Isaac race style tournament which I thought was pretty fun. Is there there any other games that are t necessarily multiplayer that would be fun to have a competition with?

You asked for "games that are t necessarily multiplayer." There's nothing about your post that indicated people SHOULDN'T suggest multiplayer games.

For something that goes by fast, people could load up Super Meat Boy. Most single-player games will be too slow-paced and people won't stay interested, but SMB moves fast enough that you won't have to worry as much about that.

If you have a PS3 with the Move you could have people play The Fight: Lights Out. I would totally have a tournament with that. Also, archery or sword fighting in Sports Champions would apply there.
