Kickstarter vs Steam

#1the_ass_guyPosted 10/6/2013 7:53:26 PM
I was wondering if anyone knew if kickstarter games are sold a little cheaper than after their release? Any examples to see a trend?

I am interested in a project, but if it releases on steam at the same price, I will wait for its release to see how it turned out. If it is cheaper to back on kickstarter, that will probably be reason enough to buy now.

Most games I noticed aren't cheaper. Usually 20 bucks is the digital reward tier. Sometimes lower.

Interestingly enough, video game companies used to be able to make money without selling out like cheap prostitutes.-KaiserWarrior

Kickstarter is not really the place to shop for deals no.

Not really looking for a deal as much as I just don't want to have to stupidly pay more later. Game can be backed for 10$ now, so I was just wondering if the chances were that it would also be 10$ on steam.

It's for Hyper light drifter, btw.

Choosing to not back a Kickstarter game is hardly stupid.

Just a few things addressed: the $10 price on kickstarter is special for you early backers . The standard price on all platforms will be $15 once the campaign ends .

It depends on the game. For the most part, they want to encourage people to back the project so they'll give them a "discount" over the final price of the game, but sometimes it's the exact same price and the reason to back is for the extras.

Realistically, if you can wait, you'll always find a deal later on. Backing on Kickstarter is for people who can't wait, want the project to be the best possible, and/or have a desire to be a part of the design process with feedback and suggestions.

It's not smart in general to think of Kickstarter as a place to buy...unless the developer has a proven track record, they may not even get the game finished as promised. Even if they have a proven track record, they may be late or over budget. If you're not looking to help the project along, then you'd probably rather wait and buy it when/if it does release on steam. If $10 is a huge concern to you, then wait.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for, but didn't find it when I looked on the page myself. First time checking out a kickstarter so I was a little lost.
