Remember being able to rent and play used PC games?

No, but I remember hearing it was stupid. Like not being able to play MP games because someone before you wrote down and kept the cd-key for themselves or something.

I rather own the games I play so I can play them whenever I want without being charged for it, especially when you can eventually get them for as little as $5-$10 anyway if you're not in a hurry to play them.

Remember not getting games with massive discounts (and sometimes in massive quantities) along with a unified community?

Also, Valve is rolling out a family sharing option soon.

Well you still can get some games used and it doesn't really matter like the sims, think everyone shares those.. or all of them if you don't care about online or anything >_>

I never rented a pc game, but I do remember when you could still sell them back to places like gamestop

Looks like someones retiring from gaming soon. Enjoy your retirement :)

Soon every disc will be 'redeemed' online.

No I don't, I've never been a poor peasant.

And Steam isn't DRM.

Can't tell anymore if you're just trolling or what but the very definition of Steam should explain itself to you:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_(software)

Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation.

First, lolwiki.

Second, did you ever take a basic English course? Do you see that big ol "and"? It has all of those things, chief, but it's separate things.

Riddle me this: if "Steam" in general is DRM, why can I play hundreds of games WITHOUT HAVING STEAM INSTALLED AT ALL? Dat DRM right?

STEAMWORKS can be DRM, but Steam=/=Steamworks. Let me quote from your own link for you Steam's DRM is available through Steamworks to software developers durhur

Not sure why I have to explain this to so many of you derps everyday. I guess I shouldn't expect anything but ignorance from peasants though, at the end of the day peasants gon peasant.

Sharing of games is now only something console users can enjoy.

http://store.steampowered.com/sharing/

Coming soon...

Also, seeing fenris in this topic... what a surprise :o

The only real thing that I'd miss from the old days is if I decided I didn't want a game any more, I could just give the disc/box/manual to a friend and let him have it. I didn't do that too often though.

If I want to share games with a friend right now I go to his house, login to my steam account and we play there... More likely though, a game goes on sale for super cheap and rather than "share" it, I buy it for my friend outright.

Gamefly has PC rentals, it works like Netflix other then you have to download the game to play them and the selection is horrible.

Also Onlive still rents games i think, if they aren't dead already.

there was another streaming game site I used once since i got it for "free" with coke reward points.
