I'm averaging about 30FPS in Battlefield 4. What gives?

Let's forget that it is a beta.

I know its a beta but I doubt my frame rate will double when the full version releases.

As others in this thread have mentioned, it's very possible it's your first generation i7 bottlenecking your video card, in which case (unless they do MAJOR optimization), I wouldn't expect much better performance unless you upgrade that CPU. The fact that you get similar/same performance at low as well as Ultra settings tells me it's a CPU bottlenecking issue (otherwise you'd see considerably higher FPS at low as it obviously would take strain off your GPU).

Did you close the game and restart after changing the settings? Most changes in settings don't take effect until you restart the game.

I have a i5 750 and a gtx 580 and I average about 50 fps on ultra 1080p. Just need to switch to windows 8 and use beta drivers.

Wow thats crazy. Your cpu is basically the same as mine without hyperthreading and your gpu is weaker but your performance is way better.

Unfortunately I cant use Beta drivers or any update since 13.4 since AMD wont release it for Windows Vista. That might be the primary reason why my performance is so low. I haven't been able to update drivers since April.

I guess this means I must either switch to Windows 8 or switch to Nvidia. I might do both. It's just pitiful how AMD dropped support like that without even announcing it when nearly every other major company continues to support Vista.

It also could be the fact that Tony underclocked his rig to run like a ps4. So 1080p 30 fps is expected.

BF3 was pretty much large-scale prettied up CoD with vehicles and some lousy physics here and there.

Obviously I'm not running with it underclocked day to day. I did that underclock test back in May.

Looking at the performance of people with similar set ups as it looks like I should be getting much better performance than I am getting now. It must be a driver issue. I guess I'll have to buy a brand new OS. It sucks because its a needless update and its going to cost $120. That money could go into buying a SSD or a new monitor.

This situation really put a sour taste in my mouth for AMD. They cut support for older platforms way to quickly. Vista is only 3 years older than Windows 7 and it has almost the exact same features. Every other company supports it fully except for AMD. I would not be having this issue with an Nvidia card. Even Intel with their sub par GPUs fully support Vista so there is no excuse for AMD.

I get decent framerates on high/ultra... but it's not consistent.

Not to mention that Ultra looks like a blurry disaster.

Don't panic, I'm sure the final game will run very nicely.
