I got into the beta, but can't seem to wrap my head around how this works...and the steam pages don't give much help, either.

Is someone in the beta, too? Can you give me instructions on how to do it step by step?

Thanks.

I'm not yet in the beta, but it looks to me like you're supposed to click on the steam menu (top left of the client) and then settings, and from the account tab, it should give you an option to authorize another account/computer... that's what I've gathered from reading their FAQ.

If they put me in the actual beta maybe I'll figure out the details.

Maybe this might help too...According to this, in order to authorize someone you have to physically log in to their machine to authorize it...So you can't just remotely say "hey friend who lives on the other side of the planet, let me allow you to play my games while I sleep!" (oh well)

So I must give them my username and pass to let them sign in? Then they can play my games?

It wasn't meant for people to share games across the globe... it was probably meant for actual physical friends that you visit and family... just like you wouldn't take a physical DVD game and mail it to Australia so your friend down under could play it... but you might leave your game with a friend who lives 10 minutes from you.

Now, I wonder if you'd get in trouble if say your pal made an account for you on his computer and let you log in via remote access and from THERE you enter your steam account info... would that count or would it not work? Hmmm

(I should state that I've only ever played around with remote access on a computer once and after that I promptly disabled it, so I could be horribly wrong about how it works)

if you don't want to give your account info to people far away just use teamviewer to remotely access their computer and input everything that way.

also, authorization works by computer, not account so any account on that computer can use the library.

My friends are using my library when I don't use it and they enjoy being able to play game they don't have to pay for like Borderlands 2 and Payday 2
