What do you guys think of the Processor/Motherboard Combo?

#1kyler45Posted 10/9/2013 3:44:20 PM
So I'm looking to upgrade my Processor and Motherboard from my old Intel core i5 750 running at 2.7GHz (and equally as old Mobo respectively) so I'm looking on Newegg.ca for some good combinations, and I think I found one, what about this?

Processor: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131821

What do you guys think? Also, is there any other combinations you'd recommend at the 600-650$ range?

-I think for the same price, you should go with a 4770k. It performs slightly better and uses less power.

-I don't see much practical benefit to spending quite that much on a motherboard. You can overclock on a ~$140 motherboard just fine.

Get a Core i7-4770K, not 3770K and spend less on the motherboard. Something like a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H or UD4H would do nicely.
I'm not convinced the upgrade is worth it from an i5 750, though. What's your video card?

Okay, which motherboard would you recommend for the LGA 1150 socket?

Trust me, this processor is terribly outdated (I have a GTX 560), the processor and motherboard are bottlenecking my computer like crazy (the i5 750 is only dual core I believe).

I'm hoping to play watch dogs on this and they minimally recommend a quad core.

So I managed to find them on NCIX at fairly decent prices, are there any other motherboards you'd recommend?

As long as the basics are there, it should work fine.

-Z87 chipset for the 4770K (or H87 chipset for the 4770 if you're not overclocking)

-At least 32GB of RAM supported if you eventually want it (in my opinion)

-The size (ATX, micro ATX, etc) fits in the case that you're getting

You may not want to buy the absolute cheapest one you can find, but you don't need to spend tons of money either. As long as build quality isn't so cheap that it becomes a reliability issue, and it's from a reputable company, you're good.
