I just want a decent pair of desktop or bookshelf speakers.

http://www.theaudioinsider.com/product_info.php?p=swan-d1080-iv-active-desktop-loudspeaker-system&products_id=200&osCsid=e1e3f9048ff668a3a895d97894edbb5e

I was looking at these, but they haven't been in stock on that website in months. Every where I look, those are usually $250 or more, and usually from Australia or Malaysia, so shipping would probably be insane. I have a Xonar Essence STX, so I'd prefer to run them off that if possible.

Hey, Im buying new speakers today actually for my PC since the monitor ones are rubbish. I wanted something with a remote to control volume and this, surprisingly has great reviews. Going to pick it up after work today.

I picked up a pair of Emotiva Airmotiv 4s during Emotiva's recent warehouse sale. They sound excellent. They were about $80 more than the speakers you were looking at though. If you can't find anything decent, you can always opt for passives + an amp.

If you are in the market for a good 2.0 set with decent punch without the sub to take up additional space, you may want to give these a look..

Creative T40 II

http://www.amazon.com/Creative-GigaWorks-Multimedia-BasXPort-Technolgy/dp/B001S14DYO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381447275&sr=8-1&keywords=creative+t40

I purchased them and I love them. Great sound, just enough bass, and stylish looks on top. No issues to report after 2 months of use.

If you are interested in a 2.1 set, I'd recommend these..

Corsair SP2500

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Gaming-High-Power-Speaker-CA-SP211NA/dp/B004H0MQYW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381447414&sr=8-1&keywords=corsair+2.1

I haven't personally used them, but before I bought the T40's I spent a ton of time researching reviews to narrow down my choice. Everyone who reviewed these loved them and raved about the deep bass and accurate representation of the mids and highs. I would have bought these but they were more than I wanted to spend, and I can't take advantage of the bass in my apartment anyway.

This is pretty much the kind of speaker I was looking for, but that seems a little bit on the expensive side. I'd like to keep it under $300 for a pair.

If you want some bookshelf speakers for around the 300.00 mark, I have these as well for DJ gear and they are awesome. 149.00 each and produce really accurate sound as they are for monitoring.
