nVidia did this at one point, but it wasn't very functional. I'd wager performance consistency is a big concern.

Why would you SLI a new gpu with an old gpu? Just buy two 770's or pair two 680's.

The 770 is cheaper than the 680? So if you already have a 680 you dont need to get another 680, you can get a cheaper newer 770 instead.
