It's better and easy enough to bypass the Metro so no reason to get 7 on a new machine unless there's a specific program you need to use that doesn't support 8

Just stop. There are other ways to shut down. You just picked the most roundabout, convoluted way you could think of just to make a point, and a stupid one at that. Just stop.

Even in that case, you can troubleshoot the installer to run in a compatibility mode of a past Windows version. I've used it to install drivers which were claimed to not be compatible with Windows 8 with good results.

I have also really enjoyed my Windows 8 experience so far (had it for 2 months) and I don't understand all the negativity towards it
