  3. Question about Display / Graphic Cards
2 years ago#1
If my friend plugs his monitor into his HDMI port on his motherboard, will his rather expensive graphics card still work and do its duty? Or is it required to be plugged in through the Graphics card?

Because I can't help but think that would lead to a loss in visual quality, since he's using [what I assume to be] a [S]VGA port on the video card.

Or I'm just a idiot.

Are you sure it isn't a DVI port? It looks somewhat like a VGA port with the screws and everything but outputs the same video as HDMI.

No. Yes.

If AMD goes down Intel might safely release i9 for $300 and i7 for $200 and i5 for $100 and i3 for free. - su27Chaos<

No. Yes.

Thanks.

And this entire topic is nullified, because my friend proceeds to tell me that he just uses his HDMI cable and plugs it into that.

I love misunderstanding.

If he's plugged into an HDMI port on his motherboard, he's using his integrated graphics card and not his actual dedicated video card.
