Need an opinion on graphics cards

So, I'm split. These are the two cards I'm split on:

Sapphire 7970:

or

MSI r9 280x

I know I'd have to get a new PSU, before you ask (in the event I choose the r9 280x).

EDIT: I know the r9 280x is the new card, and is good for a couple years. I wanted to see what the overall opinion is.

In terms of actual performance, the difference would be negligible when both are overclocked as the r9 280x is mostly just a rebadged 7970 GHz edition which is just a binned 7970. Go with whichever one you feel suits you best. If the games appeal to you, get the 7970. I'll probably just get an r9 280x myself since I have all of the games on that list that actually interest me.

I feel like I'm trying to find a new card at the worst possible time. There's just not enough information for me off work off of.

I ordered the MSI R9 280x with a $25 off coupon. Sold my 7970 to my brother. And depending how the new 290 shape up to be, I will just do a 2 way 280x crossfire. But if you can wait, ill let you know how it handles in my system.

Not much difference between them. Any other alternatives?

It's too loud and it's not actually mine. My brother gave it to me, and told me that when he wanted to sell all his parts, he wanted it back. So, I'm giving it back to him so he can get money for a new build. I might just get the r9 280x Toxic instead. 50 bucks more, but more performance.
